| 6 December 2007 Dear Parents, The end of term will soon be upon us and travel is on my mind – boarder travel. Please remember to forward any travel issues you would like us to support you with as soon as possible. Classes finish on December 19th and students should be out of residence by 16.00 that afternoon. As usual, Secondary Parent/Teacher Consultations will take place on the last day of term, beginning at 10.30 in Karibu Hall. We look forward to seeing you on campus, and remind you that parents are always welcome to join us for lunch on the last day of term (12.35 in the dining hall). With so much happening, it's hard to believe the end of term is less than two weeks away. In November, I travelled throughout Tanzania marketing ISM, and found time at the end of the month to visit with parents of prospective boarders and current boarders in Arusha. The latter meeting was well attended (November 30th at the Blue Heron). The positive response to my visit was encouraging. I will be back in term two, as dialog and transparency are essential to the health of our programme and the growth of your children. This weekend students from ISM and several other international schools will convene in Moshi for three days of sport. We are excited to be hosting this annual event. Leading up to the festivities is another special occasion: S5 Arusha IB Diploma/Boarding Orientation. On Thursday, December 6th Arusha S5 students will spend an evening in boarding, which will include an authentic study hall experience, a special meal, and evening activities. Following on from this they will spend Friday with Moshi S5 students attending mock-IB Diploma classes. We hope this experience will excite, as will as inform. All will come away with a better understanding of the opportunities available in Moshi. The weekend of December 14th – 16th will also be an active one for residents. Mr. Holcomb will host his annual holiday Christmas party for boarders. It will involve a rich array of America-style holiday activities that historically have been enjoyed by all. We will also be decorating our 'holiday sisal' plant in the dining hall in preparation for our Boarding Christmas Dinner, which will commence at 18.30 on Tuesday, December 18th. If you are in the Moshi area and wish to attend, please RSVP on/or before December 14th. The highlight of the weekend, however, will be the drama performance of "Men at Arms" produced by ISM teacher Trevor Newman, featuring ISM students and staff. There will be two performances: Saturday, December 15th and Sunday, December 16th – both will include dinner and take place at EL Rancho restaurant in Shanty Town. Tickets are available from the main office on both campuses, or by contacting Mr. Newman directly (). As this is a school performance, no students will be served alcohol. Finally, I would like to wish you all a warm holiday season and thank you for your support throughout 2007. The challenges and successes of the past year have brought us to this point and it is time for rest and reflection. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 15th. Boarders may return after 12.00 on Monday, January 14th and should be on campus by 17.00. Happy New Year! Yours sincerely, Richard Eaton Head of Boarding International School Moshi | |
