| March 2008 Dear Parents, It has been a short, but busy term, and we are now approaching its end. Let me begin with several reminders and some end of term information: 1) School will close for Term II on Wednesday, March 19th. Classes will finish at approximately 09.30. They will be followed by a brief end of term assembly and students will be dismissed shortly after 10.00. Boarders should be out of residence by 16.00. 2) On the last day of term, there will also be an opportunity to meet with your son/daughter’s teachers. These parent teacher conference will take place in Karibu Hall from 10.30 - 12.00. Coffee and tea will be provided. Boarding parents will be available for consultation during these times in their respective areas. 3) On March 7th I will be in Arusha meeting with parents based in the area and interested others. If you plan to attend, please forward any items you would like to see on the agenda. This meeting will take place at the Blue Heron and will begin at 12.30. This term we have welcomed several new boarders, many of them Tanzanian students who had been studying in Kenya prior to the recent disturbances. They have quickly assimilated and have been warmly welcomed by our existing students. New enrolment is always exciting, but not without its challenges. We have endeavoured to create as little disturbance as possible as we have reshuffled some rooming assignments as part of this process. I have taken the time to meet with many of the students affected by these changes and have been, overall, impressed by their cooperation and maturity. If you have any concerns related to this issue, please direct them to me personally. Further, if you are aware of any families that may be interested in an ISM education, please encourage them to make contact with us. This past weekend boarders participated enthusiastically in our annual Variety Show. The performances were, as always, diverse and entertaining. It was a pleasure to see so many parents attend this special event. This was followed by a mini-rally in Boarding on Saturday. Students designed and built miniature rally cars using local methods and raced them on our homemade track. The winning engineers/races were treated to an ice-cream party by Mr. Folland, our Secondary Physics teacher, who I would like to thank for his continued support of the residential programme on this and so many other occasions. Our annual Easter Dinner will commence at 18.00 on Tuesday, March 18th. We have invited the Macha family as our special guests and hope they will be able to attend, as they have contributed significantly to boarding at ISM in the last several years. If you are in the Moshi area and would like to join us for this special occasion, you are more than welcome. Please RSVP as soon as possible. May I conclude by informing families that we will continue providing access to religious services on a regular basis. If there is a service at a local place of worship that you expect your children to regularly attend, please let their boarding parent know and we will ensure they participate. Last but not least, can I also reinforce the need for a balanced revision timetable for D2 and S5 students over the holidays. Rest and relaxation should be a part of their routine as well, but the importance of their coming exams should not be forgotten. Boarders should be back in residence by 17.00 on Monday, April 7th for the start of Term III. Classes resume on April 8th. Enjoy March, and the coming holidays wherever you spend them!
