International School Moshi Boarding News - 1st June 2008 |
|
Dear Parents, As another school year comes to a close, it's a healthy time to reflect and pass on general information. Our D2 students graduated on Saturday, May 24th. In an emotional ceremony we said good-bye to numerous students who had been with us since primary school, as well as two scholarship students - who were closely followed all day by a media contingent - and a number of young people who had joined us more recently in their diploma years. It was a great day and a sincere pleasure to see so many supportive parents on hand to help us celebrate. The next sign post as the academic year winds down is our S5 ceremony on the Moshi Campus. It will commence on June 6th at 15.00. It will be followed by a meal to which the parents of all S5 students are most cordially invited. It's also time to begin making travel and other end of year arrangements. If we can support you with travel arrangements, please let us know by contacting Mama Somaiya directly (). Classes end on Wednesday, June 11th at 10.00. There will be a short end of term assembly at 09.30, which parents are welcome to attend. There will also be parent - teacher consultations beginning at 10.30, and running until 12.00 in Karibu Hall. Boarders should be out of residence by 16.00 at the latest. Our end of term special meal in boarding will take place on Monday, June 9th beginning at 18.30. I have been invited to help set the menu, as it will be my final special dinner at ISM. If you are in the Moshi area, you are more than welcome to attend. Other leaving teachers will be honoured, as will several students for their contributions to the boarding programme. Indeed, it would be fair to say the last several weeks have been active with D2 Graduation, a Quiz Night, an M1 - M4 Interschool Sports Tournament, D1 Life Skills Student Interviews, S4 Work Experience, an OP trip to the summit of Socialist Peak, in addition to countless other academic and extra-curricular events. Hence, my last month in the school has provided constant reminders of what makes ISM such a special place to work: the non-stop energy and commitment of its staff, students, and administration, not to mention a balanced amount of support and input from a very keen parental community. No institution or programme will ever be perfect, but over the last three years I have had the pleasure of serving a school as its Head of Boarding that is striving to inspire its students, staff, patrons, and the community to understand the importance of being life-long learners in a global community. A more perfect mission would be hard to scribe, and if as a residential programme we can continue to strive for this end, we will - at the very least - be exemplary. My best wishes to the parents, staff, and students associated with the residential programmes at ISM - now and in the future. Good luck! Yours faithfully, Richard Eaton Outgoing-Head of Boarding | Available on the web... |
