Letter from the CEO: 7 June 07

  7 June 2007

Dear Parents,

We have reached the end of another exciting school year at ISM. Our IB2 graduating class of 2007 has left the stage and are moving on to colleges and universities. I want to thank you, the ISM Board of Directors, and our teaching staff for supporting the school this year. One unintended circumstance of our re-accreditation by CIS was the discussion of a number of issues about how our school operates and how it is governed. Over the last six months management and the Board have examined several issues and taken action to strengthen the school’s commitment to the guiding principle of ISM as one school with two campuses. I have appreciated their support, guidance and wisdom during these deliberations. In addition, we embarked upon a Strategic Planning process that should be concluded in October.

You have by now received the profiles of our new teachers joining us next year. We have been planning our orientation programme since March and will be helping our new teachers get settled in and sorted out between when they arrive and August 13th, the first day of classes. Next year we hope to organize several functions on both campuses to help bring our communities together. We hope to see parents and teachers participating in tennis and golf tournaments, quiz nights and barbeques during the year. Just attending the many student sporting events and dramatic performances at all grade levels will keep us all running flat out.

We will continue to actively promote our ISM scholarship programme for Tanzanian students and update you regularly on the progress of our scholarship graduates who are now studying in universities abroad at places like Harvard, Amherst, Duke and UBC. ISM’s Development Office is working on several initiatives aimed at supporting more scholarship students in our school.

I hope you enjoy the eighth edition of The Summit magazine and I encourage you to take a copy with you on your holiday to share with friends and family. I want to thank Annette Wood, Anne Wilshin and Catriona Sutherland for their big efforts again in creating the magazine this school year for our families.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable time with your families over the long break. I look forward to meeting you again in August and working together to ensure a smooth start to the next school year.

Best Regards,
Barry Sutherland
