Dear Parents, Congratulations to our primary swimmers who performed well at the St Constantine's swimming gala in Arusha today. And we wish all the best to our Model United Nations students who are travelling to Nairobi on Sunday for a week of negotiations and debate on topical environmental, economic and political issues with students from other schools in the region. Meanwhile in Moshi and Arusha we focus on our search for a new director this week. New Director Search
Three candidates for the post of Director to take over from Barry Sutherland in August are arriving on Sunday for three days of meetings and interviews on both campuses. This is an important appointment for the School and one in which we aim to get a great deal of input. The candidates will be interviewed by a parents' panel, by teachers, by students and by senior staff in the school as well as by the full Governing Board. All parents will have an opportunity to meet the candidates and to put questions to them at the two Parent Town Halls. You are invited to attend one or both of the following:
P5/6 Trip to Magara
The P5/P6 classes from both campuses are leaving for their field study trip to Magara from Monday 23rd February to Wednesday 25th February. During the trip they will be climbing the escarpment, interviewing people from different tribes in the area and camping at the site. the trip letter sent to parents contains more details and is available from www.ismoshi.org/p56trip_letter.pdf.ABRSM Practical Exams
The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) will be sending an examiner to Moshi/Arusha in May to examine any of our students who wish to take practical musical instrument examinations. If your child would like to take these tests, please let Mr Khari Lee know by Monday 23rd February. The fee will be US$50 per student per examination.The ABRSM Theory Exams will take place on Thursday, 5th March. Students have already registered for these examinations. Kilimanjaro Marathon
On Sunday, 1st March, the Kilimanjaro Marathon will be held in Moshi together with a Half Marathon and a 5km Fun Run. We are establishing Team ISM to join any one of these races and are trying to raise sponsorship funds through this for our Scholarship Programme. Any student aged 10 years or over can join the Fun Run and we hope many parents and other community members will also join Team ISM. For a fee of TSh 20,000/- you will get a Team ISM T-Shirt, refreshments on race day, transport to/from school to the race and the amount remaining will be donated to the Scholarship Fund.I-Pods are being offered as prizes for the top fund-raisers in Team ISM For further details, please check www.ismoshi.org/marathon.htm. Secondary students on Arusha Campus are staging their production of Dira/Heartbeat on Friday, 27th and Saturday 28th February on Arusha Campus. All are welcome to this celebration of dance, rhythm and song from around the world. There is a bus going from Moshi Campus for our own students to join in the fun - all places on the bus have been filled!Scholarship Students for 2009/10
The Tanzanian national form four examination results were published a couple of weeks ago and we have started our search for the two students who will join the D1 class in August with a full tuition and boarding scholarship. We are seeking students with demonstrated academic excellence and a record of active involvement in co-corricular and/or community service activities. If you know of any suitable Tanzanian student, please encourage them to apply. P3/4 have learned many great things and had the opportunity to use some primary resources to make their own products. They will be displaying some of their products and sharing their learning on Wednesday 25th February at 12.35pm.P3/4 students be visiting Kibo Match Factory on Thursday 26th February at 9.30am and will be back at school in time for the end of the school day. Thanks to a spate of surges, brownouts and cuts in our TANESCO power supply, a number of stabilisers on the school IT system were damaged last week. This caused us a few network breakdowns, but we hope to have everything back to normal fairly soon.World Math Day
Last year a number of ISM students won awards for their part in World Math Day. This year we will again encourage as many students as possible to participate online on Wednesday, 4th March. Students from P1 to D2 will receive passwords to enter. Practice sessions are already available at www.worldmathday.com. The aim is to beat the record for the number of math questions answered correctly worldwide in one day - in 2008 this was over 182 million.Maulid
There will be no classes on Monday, March 9th as we celebrate Maulid. Classes will resume on Tuesday, 10th March. There will be a programme of activities for the boarders over the weekend and on the public holiday as usual. | Available on the web...
