Dear Parents,Monday ArrangementsAs you may be aware, the US President will be arriving in Arusha on Monday, 18th February. We are expecting major disruptions to transport on Monday and we are concerned about students being able to get to and from school. Therefore the Arusha Campus will be CLOSED Monday, 18th February. There will be no classes or ECAs for students on Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, 19th February. The Moshi Campus will be OPEN as usual on Monday, 18th February. We apologise for any inconvenience. P5/6 CampDue to Monday’s disruption the P5/6 Camp trip will depart on Tuesday (rather than Monday).New StudentsWhilst the uncertain situation in Kenya continues, we are very aware that there are a number of families whose children were in school there and who are now considering seeking new options for their children. If you know of any such families who might possibly be considering ISM, I would be very grateful if you could encourage them to contact us. We are happy to arrange a "trial" day in classes or an evening/night in boarding for students who wish to get a taste of what ISM has to offer. Please find attached a letter addressed to any such families which you are welcome to pass on.Kilimanjaro Marathon & Fun RunOn Sunday March 2nd, the Kilimanjaro Marathon will take place from Moshi. There is also a half marathon and a 5km Fun Run. We would like to raise an ISM team of students, parents, teachers and others to run (or even walk) in any of these races and to help us to raise additional funds for our Scholarship Programme. If each participant could raise just TSh 20,000/-, this could help the fund considerably. For more details, please go to www.ismoshi.org/marathon or contact Sarah Jamieson on or see the posters in the school. This could be a great family and school event! Closing date for registration for the ISM team is 15th February.Parent AssociationAll parents are welcome to meet the members of the Parent Association for tea/coffee on Wednesday, 20th February in Room 15 in Moshi Campus from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a similar event on the Arusha Campus from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 12th March.Boarding Meeting in ArushaThis term's Boarding meeting for Arusha based parents will take place on Friday, March 7th beginning at 12.30 p.m. The venue will be the Blue Heron. If you are based in Arusha - or will be travelling in the region - we invite you to attend. Please forward any items you would like Richard to put on the agenda.School PhotographsIndividual photos and class photos have been taken. The charges for photos per picture per person are:-
Capital Development FeesIn another move to encourage increased enrolment, the Board has now agreed to spread Capital Development Fee payments over three years. Hence, instead of a new student needing to pay $2150 in Capital Development Fees before joining the school or before moving to P1, parents can now pay $700 per year for three years.Upcoming Events

I know that your support and encouragement of our swimmers; both primary and secondary will be most appreciated.P5/6 EOTCHuman curiosity and the need to know more about the world has motivated certain groups and individuals to explore the unknown. While it is not the unknown for some of the P5/6 students and teachers, the Magara area is unknown for some. This outdoor camping experience will provide a meaningful learning opportunity for everyone in terms of promoting and supporting both our students' personal, social and emotional development. As well as this we will be guiding the students' deeper understanding of the ways people explore, the motivation behind exploration and nature of exploration. We wish everyone participating in this Education Outside the Classroom experience a safe and enjoyable trip. The trip will leave Tuesday and return Friday. In the classrooms - Early ChildhoodThe excitement about choosing books to take home each day is high in the EC room at 8.00am each morning. Students make reflections both orally and visually about their feelings about the stories they have shared at home. You will be able to view their 3D sculptures made using plaster bandages and stick sculptures using sticks, play dough, buttons and yarn in their end of unit art show which is coming soon!P1/2All students are fully aware of the wide range of written print around the classrooms and are using these words adventurously in their daily journal writing. Inventive spelling, re-reading their own writing, demonstrating that they are aware of direction of print and spacing are all skills being displayed. If you have time to drop into either of these classes the students will be able to share with you what they have been doing.P3/4Exploring different ways to read an analogue clock in quarter, half and 5 minute intervals in measurement as well as using grouping as a strategy to develop a deeper understanding of multiplication are all skills being shared in these classrooms. Their number of the day math books show evidence of the thinking that has taken place and the developmental journey these students have been on so far this school year.P5/6In Swahili the students have shown their recall of knowledge and understanding of numbers into the millions. They have used large numbers in a range of different learning activities to consolidate their learning and make connections to everyday problem solving tasks that involve numbers. WOW! I learned this week that I need more Swahili lessons!Betty Brown Head of Primary Sports and OP NewsCongratulationsCongratulations senior girls - Iptisam, Janita, Emma, Anne, Jamie and Harveen on winning the Moshi basketball tournament last weekend.Good luck to all swimmers tomorrow, February 16, at the SCIS swim gala from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St. Constantine's pool.
