M3 Science Fair
Bravo to all the M3 students for their hard work and excellent projects exhibited at the science fair!! You showed yourselves to be accomplished scientists, and your concern about the environment and improvements to people's lives showed you to be caring and principled. Congratulations, and well done to Miss Wood for leading the class to a success.

The exams begin in earnest on Monday, 12 May. Students will be sitting their first written exams during the coming week, and they continue through 12 June. It will be an intense and gruelling month. Good luck, students …revise well!
Internal Assessments
For students in M1 - M4, end of year summative assessments will take place during the week of 12 - 19 May. These will be aimed at various assessment criteria of the MYP and may include traditional examinations as well as other assessments, including in-class investigations, performances, etc. Good luck, students!
Examinations: Coping with Stress
The end of year in every secondary school is a stressful time for students as they prepare for end-of-year exams and face the challenges that lie ahead. Parents are encouraged to help your children cope with the stress of examinations in various ways. Sleeping well, eating healthy food, getting some exercise and spending some time on recreation as well as on studying are all ways for people to reduce their stress load. Parents, please help your children find a good balance between study and recreation, help them find a good work area where they can focus on revision when they are studying, and help them take care of their bodies as well as their minds. Water, sleep, exercise and healthy food are all needed by stressed bodies! Above all, be supportive and encouraging. With such help, the students will do their best on the exams and come through the challenge as stronger and more capable young men and women. Good luck, students - you can do it!

Dear Parents, Looking back on the week
Mkombozi Educators - ISM Arusha Campus INQUIRY "Exchange Day"
One highlight of our professional week in the Primary school was the time we spent with five teachers from Mkombozi (an organization working with street children in Moshi and Arusha). On Tuesday 6th May, these teachers came to spend the day at ISM AC to find out more about inquiry classrooms and how inquiry teaching and learning looks. Each visiting teacher spent time in at least three of our Primary classrooms during the day. We then dedicated our staff meeting on this day to an open forum during which all of the teachers joined to learn from each other. Despite the many great differences between the kind of work that we do with children in our different organizations, we agreed that we do have some very important elements in common: We all prioritise "the individual" in our work with children and try to find ways to discover and address their individual needs. We help children identify goals and intentions and then support them as they work towards achieving them. We all endeavour to establish healthy and close personal relationships with the children in our care. We all put values at the centre of our work with children. We also learned about some of the planned initiatives and actions that Mkombozi has for their future work with the street children. As a team of fellow educators and as a school, we are now interested in further developing our connection with these courageous educators and helping to support their work through professional development sessions, and the sharing of resources. We would also like to bring our ISM students to a closer understanding of how they can personally make a difference for other children living in their community by initiating drives for items which are needed by the Mkombozi team, including sports equipment, stationery, books etc. (The current P3/4 unit of inquiry is titled ‘People helping people') It's always a good feeling when we are confronted with such a powerful experience that makes us want to take action and make a difference. In doing so, our Primary teaching team are providing a positive model for the students of how it looks when people are caring, empathetic, enthusiastic, committed and principled in their beliefs and their actions. Natalie Croome Looking forward to the weekend
Swim / Football Gala
Tomorrow morning representative swimmers and footballers from P4,5, and 6 will travel to Moshi to participate in an interschool swimming and football gala. I would like to wish all participants all the best in their events as well as to thank all the parents who will be travelling with the group and braving the 7.15 a.m. leaving time on a Saturday morning. Armed with overflowing picnic baskets to keep our energy levels up I am confident we will all enjoy a wonderfully hosted ISM event.
Looking forward to next month
P6 - M1 Transition Meeting
As initially planned at the beginning of the year we were to host a primary P6 - M1 transition coffee morning on Tuesday 6th May. However, due to the change of date of the MYP Open Day and because of the important relevance this programme has to the continuation and building upon of the PYP we have postponed this coffee morning. It will now take place on Monday morning 9th June the same day as the students transition day where the P6 students will spend the day in M1 participating in the M1 program. We would like this coffee morning to address any questions and concerns you may have and welcome your questions before this date in order for us to plan and best meet your needs.
Looking forward to next year
Class Structure
Fuelled with the knowledge we have regarding who is coming and going next year along with a knowledgeable, skilled and caring primary teaching team we will have the following structure in place for next year.1 Early Childhood class under the guidance of Samantha Mongardi and Anne Joyce Mwamafupa 1 P1/2 class under the guidance of Diana Kraft 3 P3/4 classes under the guidance of Kara Kirby, Marcello Mongardi and Helen Iglar 2 P5/6 classes under the guidance of Lloyd Curley and Natalie Croome I will continue to have the privilege of working with all students and teachers both inside and outside the classroom and look forward to planning, communicating and celebrating many of our students' accomplishments throughout the year. Now that the class structure and numbers have been defined, teachers will be starting to reflect on placement of students. If coming to chat with me will ease your anxieties please do so. This time of the year can have the potential to be stressful on both parents and students and we would like the transition into the new-year to be as smooth as possible.
