Secondary News
M1 Fashion Show
Monday and Tuesday, 2nd and 3rd June, the M1 students will be finishing up their work on their guiding question, "Why do we search for patterns?" with a DT-inspired Fashion Show. The students will show off their DT skills in their own clothing, their PE moves on the catwalk, and their French & Swahili skills in describing their creation. The excitement takes place 7 p.m. on Tuesday, 3rd June. Bravo, M1 fashionistas!
M3 Culminating Activity
Unfortunately, the unusually heavy rains put a stop to the M3 trip to West Kilimanjaro to do some fieldwork on their guiding question, "What affects development?" We have been working on organizing a trip to a local farm to try to do some of the work from that trip. Final plans are still being arranged - details will go home to M3 students early next week.
S5 Leaving Ceremony
On Friday, 6th June, we will have our leaving ceremony for our S5 class. All of us at ISM congratulate them on their successes in school and wish them all the best in their next adventures in Moshi and beyond! Kwa herini, S5 students! We will miss you all!
P6/M1 Transition Day
The current P6s will get a taste of life in secondary on Monday, 9th June. They will get some information on the MYP and how things happen in secondary, and then will get a chance to meet the teachers and experience classes in a modified timetable. Parents are invited to attend an information session that morning on the MYP and the secondary programme.
Secondary Assembly
On Tuesday, 10th June, there will be an assembly for Secondary (M1 - M4) students. The M4 students will present their experiences in the world of work, and we will say goodbye to those secondary students who are leaving ISM.

Primary News
Dear Parents,
PYP Exhibition Success
Many thanks to our school, parent and wider school community for your support towards the success of our students' PYP Exhibition Presentations today. If you were fortunate enough to be at school and to be a part of the PYP presentations you will have been witness to a wide range of viewing and presenting techniques such as: board games, PowerPoints, songs, photos, facts and figures, mapping and display boards. All of these techniques enabled the students to share their higher level thinking and questioning skills, in-depth knowledge, superb trans-disciplinary skills, positive and enthusiastic attitude and meaningful actions, all whilst catering for large, captivated audiences.

Evidence of the success of the Exhibition was Harriet and Johanna talking about doing their own investigation this weekend on animals. They were talking about all the different presentations techniques they would use and how much fun it would be! Congratulations to all the students for their commitment, hard work and role modelling of positive behaviours, our teacher mentors, our community resource people and teachers: Mr. Lloyd Curley, Mrs. Helen Iglar and Ms. Natatlie Croome. Hongera Sana!
Early Childhood Food Feast
Prepared parents armed with foods from the different food groups arrived at school today to mark the culminating event for the early childhood students who, after much exploration and investigation into why healthy food is essential for good health, had written their own signs including: grains, meats, vegetables, dairy and a very recognizable sign which said ‘corn' by Nadia. All participated in a very relaxed, shared lunch. Thank you to Ms. Kristine and Ms. Regina for coordinating such a valuable learning experience for their students.
P3/4 Mkombozi Field Trip
Our class had the chance to play some fun cooperative games with the Mkombozi boys, join in a classroom learning session where they learned from the Mkombozi teachers and played a non-competitive game of baseball. Our students cooperated to build an electro-magnetic motor and learned their 2s, 3s and only times tables in Swahili! What a great day!

Some things we noticed:
  • "They are all boys." - Jack
  • "They learn times tables, like us" - Kawsu
  • "They are great people like us." - Tania
  • "They play games like us, but the rules are different" - Hussein
  • "They are different ages in the same class"- Jacob
  • "They have two different classes for different kids" - Raz

Reporting to parents
This is a reminder that next Tuesday 3rd June you will be receiving your child's portfolio.

The portfolio is a systematic, purposeful and meaningful collection of student work which describes and provides evidence of student learning, progress and development over a period of time and across the curriculum. It is a flexible approach to organizing and presenting student work for further consideration, reflection and discussion. At ISMAC the portfolio provides evidence of the PYP in practice.

While looking through this authentic assessment document please reflect on the progress, development and celebrations of learning your child has made this school year.

Displayed outside each classroom and included in the portfolio will be the time that you and your child are invited to participate in their PTC Conference. This is a perfect time to not only celebrate accomplishments but also to start thinking about goal setting for next year.
Fitness Frenzy!
On Tuesday 10th June we will be holding our culminating skipping and fun swim activities. The morning will start at 11.00 and conclude at 2.30pm. Wearing suitable skipping shoes and clothing is essential - See you here!

More details will be shared next week.
