International School Moshi Arusha Campus News - 29th May 2009
Dear Parents,
PYP Exhibition
Congratulations to all our P6 students for their outstanding work for the PYP exhibition. Once again the students have produced outstanding projects. Congratulations to the students and to Mr Curley and Ms Croome for their work with the students.
Staffing
Samantha Mongardi leaves this week for maternity leave. We wish her the best. Mrs. Ilona Smeats will be looking after the EC class in her absence.
Primary Polo Shirts
The implementation of the primary polo shirt has been a gradual process this year. Although the intention was to implement them fully this academic year we were unable to complete our stocks in time for the new academic year. We now are fully stocked with a variety of colours and sizes. I would like to remind parents with students in primary next year that the polo shirt will be compulsory next year for all primary students.
Instrumental Lessons
Some students taking instrumental lessons still have outstanding fees. Please note that these need to be paid before the end of term.
Dira /Heartbeat
DVDs are still for sale at the front office. Please contact Loise.
M5 Ceremony
Our own M5 ceremony will take place on Tuesday, 16th June at 10 am in Arusha. This is the last official day for M5s. They are welcome to attend the final
assembly on the Wednesday.
ABRSM Theory Exams
The next set of music theory examinations will be held in Arusha on 30th September. Parents of students who wish to register must email me directly at before the end of this term on 17th June. Please note that I can only take registrations for upcoming examinations and parents need to confirm registration for later examinations when they are announced.
M5 Art Exhibition
On Friday 5 June, M5 Visual Art students will exhibit a selection of work from their M4 and M5 years during intermission and after "A Shakespeare Season". They will have their Developmental Workbooks there to show and tell you how some of their pieces were developed using the Creative Cycle. Please join us.
Refundable Deposits
If your child is finally leaving ISM this term, you will want to know the procedure for handling the refundable deposit which you paid when your child first joined ISM. Our first task is to check that your child has returned all the books or equipment that has been loaned to him/her and this process is normally completed on their last day in school - we also need to verify that all school fees due have been paid.
If a sibling will be continuing in ISM next year, the deposit will be automatically credited to their own fees account. In this case you do not need to do anything. Otherwise we ask you to complete a form which is available online at www.ismoshi.org/refund_deposita.pdf by clicking here and to return this to me either in printed form or by email. Printed copies of the form will also be given to your child to pass on to you. Deposits will be refunded according to your instructions in the same currency as that in which they were paid about 2 weeks after your child leaves ISM.
Last Day
Please note that the last day of classes is Wednesday, 17th June. This will be a half day with the final assembly at 11 am.
Students who are leaving need to ensure that all books and materials have been returned. Refundable deposits cannot be issued before the final say and only after all leaving procedures have been completed.

Primary News
Dear Parents,
Campers return!
The P4 campers; after enjoying an energetic walk, a cool climate, energising food, the serenity sleeping under the secutiry of tall, mature, yellow acacia trees, camp fire singing, team games and throught provoking activities have returned to school a little muddy, a little tired but full of memories of spending 2 days exploring water in the Olasiti district. A highlight for everyone was the feedback we received from the students at Olasiti primary.
Next Week: EC / P1 Exploration Morning
Our EC students who will be moving to P1 next year will be participating in an exploration morning with Diana, Ishbel and the students on Monday 1st June. We are sure that they will enjoy their new surroundings. Ongoing visits for these students are scheduled for the remainder of the year.
Our Last Primary Share Time Assembly
We will start our last primary share time assembly on Friday 5th June at 1.15pm! You will get to see some P3/4 camp reflections, hear our P3,4,5,6 choirs singing in harmony and a Gymnastics presentation to wet your appetite for our Gym and Dance culminating exhibition on Friday June 12th. More details to come.
Safe Travels and Good Luck
The Primary Team, and I am sure the whole school community wish Mrs. Samantha Mongardi a safe trip to the United States where she will be joined by Mr. Marcello Mongardi when school is out to prepare for the safe delivery off their second baby. We wish the Mongardi family all the very best during this extra special family time.
Meanwhile we would like to welcome Mrs. Illona Smeats to the EC class. Illona is a trained teacher and has spent the past term working alongside students in P3/4M and has spent time in the EC class familiarising herself not only with the students but with the programme content, routines and celebrations. Illona is look forward to working with Anne Joyce and Carolyn and the students. Karibu Sana!
AND!
Ending the week on the very high note we would like to
Congratulate our P6 Students!
We would like to thank all our P5/6 students who presented their Exhibition Projects about Health in Tanzania so confidently to our school and wider school community.
We would like to thank all the resource people, parents and mentors who made this experience possible for our students and specifically Mr. Lloyd Curley for guiding the students and ensuring they worked collaboratively together whist working to their individual potentials. Ms Croome for working with the P5's and continuing to develop their research skills and deeper understanding of the PYP research process in preparation for their Exhibition next year!
The level of skills, knolwedge and understanding was very high. Hongera Sana! Photos from this momentous occasion will be posted on the school website next week. I will send you a link as soon as it is up and running. In the mean time I have sent you a few sneak pics.
Regards
