Loise Mbiyu
I am sorry to announce that Loise lost her husband Wednesday night. Everyone in the school community is very saddened by this and our thoughts are with Loise. Loise will be absent from school for an indefinite period. A condolence card will be at reception on Monday if any parent wishes to sign it.Secondary Information Sessions
Thank you to the many parents who attended the Secondary Information sessions on Thursday. It was a great opportunity to catch up and meet new teachers and ISM families as well as learn a little about what we have planned for the next term.PA Picnics
There is another opportunity to meet new teachers this weekend. The Parent Association will be hosting the Arusha picnic to welcome new teachers and families to the community and to provide an opportunity for all to meet socially. This will be this Saturday, 22nd August from 11.30 a to 2 pm. Please bring your own food and drinks. The school BBQ will be lit if you wish to bring some meat to cook.Contact Information

The Islamic holy month of Ramadan will begin in about one week's time. We need to be aware that during this time some Muslim students in the school will be fasting. At the end of Ramadan there is a national holiday of two days - Idd el Fittr - which is declared once the new moon has been sighted. So that ISM families can plan their time well, the school will recognise Monday, 21st September and Tuesday, 22nd September as the Idd holiday and we will hold no classes on those days. We will not change these plans if the government announces different dates for the Idd holiday. There will be classes as normal on Wednesday, 23rd September.Lost and Found
Oddly we have already begun to collect lost and found items this year. For those who are new lost and found is found outside the main office each day. So if you have something missing please check out what is there.The Pool
The pool is now full and operational even if it was a little cold for swimming today. I will be posting the pool schedule early next week so that you know when it is available. Remember admittance is free to ISM familties.ABRSM Theory Exams
The next set of music theory examinations will be held in Arusha on 30th September. Parents of students who wish to register must email me directly at adrianm@ismac.ac.tz before the end of this term on 17th June. Please note that I can only take registrations for upcoming examinations and parents need to confirm registration for later examinations when they are announced.Dates to remember

Most P3-6 students and parents have had their goal setting meetings this week, however if you have not had yours please make sure to arrange a time for next week. CCAs commence the following week and it will be a bit more challenging for teachers to make time.Language Labs
This week our P3/4 students commenced Language labs. During these sessions students focus on 'Spelling' and how it fits in writing and how it is connected to other learning.A strategy that all our students are using when learning new words is the following: Look Look at the whole word carefully Look for letter patterns Look for the tricky parts Say Say the word quietly to yourself Say the work slowly Say the work in a way that helps you remember it Cover Covber your word so you cant see it Visualise Get a picture of the word in your mind Write Write the word, thinking abou twhat it looks like and what it sounds like when you say it. Check Chect what you have written Did you get it right? Well Done! If not - look at the bit your gone wrong and have another try: Look, Say, Cover, Visualise, Write, Check Please support your children, using this strategy to learn their words at home. We hope you enjoyed our first share time assembly. How did you do matching up the attitude with its definition? I found it a real challenge and will re think presenting an item like this again. In case you missed it, highlights included the P5/6 rendition of 'I fought the law and the law won' this was an absolute hit! The students need to be congratulated on their understanding and application of some very entertaining lyrics.Some P3/4 students shared something important about themselves. This poetry was based on the book 'The Important Book' by: Magaret Wise-Brown. The important thing about me is that I am honest. It is true I have 1 sister and I like horses, I like to eat popcorn and watch movies, But the important thing about me is that I am honest. Milos said: The important thing about me is that I get very easily annoyed. I like helping people, I like to play with dogs But the important thing about me is that I get very easily annoyed. Loes said: The important thing about me is that I am musical. I like to play with my friends, Vie and Flo and I want to learn to ride a bike. I enjoy eating sweets and watching TC. Its true that I have 2 brothers who I enjoy playing with. But the important thing about me is that I am musical. The important thing about ISMAC is that everyone is inspired! It is true that there are inquisitive students who love to learn, Parents are supportive and caring of their children's goals and accomplishments, Teachers are knowledgeable in providing best practice teaching and learning opportuntities for all students. Gardeners and cleaners care about our school environment by keeping it clean and safe. ISMAC is a great international school, But the important thing about ISMAC is that eveyone is inspired! The trip is aimed at OLDER STUDENTS that are new to the school who want to get involved in OP. It will be a 2 day trip walking up the Pare Mountains and camping on a ridge at the top before descending down the other side the next day. This is a steep level one trip not suitable for M1s. The trip is aimed at OLDER STUDENTS and M1's that did well on the campcraft trip and want to get involved in OP. It will be a 2 day trip walking up to first hut on the Marangu Route. Spend the night there, then return the next day. This trip involves climbing up to the 2nd hut on Meru, which is a little bit steep, and then up Little Meru 3801m. You must have successfully completed a level 1 trip in order to go on this trip. This will be a camping trip on Kilimanjaro. Students MUST have successfully completed a level 3 trip in order to go on this trip. We will ascend up the north side of Kili on the first two days, before coming over the saddle and descending down the Marangu Route. Great views of Kibo and Mawenzi if no rain! This is a level 3 trip, which involves the first day climbing to Mandara, the second day climbing to Horombo and the third day going on a day walk up to the base of Mawenzi, before returning to Horombo for the night. You must have successfully completed a level two trip (or are an older student new to ISM and had no problems on level one). In order to attend this trip you must have successfully completed a level four trip already, preferably Socialist Peak. This 5 day trip is hard and very cold! Quarter 1 Sports Fixtures

SELECTION: Is based on age, commitment to team training and/or appointment by team coach. UNIFORM: Team members representing ISM must be in ISM PE kit or team uniform as supplied by the team coach. AGE: Is as of September 1st 2009. For example U12's must be under 12 yearsold as of September 1st 2009. TIME: Weekday fixtures are on Thursdays from 3:15-4:15pm. When these fixtures are away at another school we leave at 3pm and return by 4:30pm. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES (CCAs)Quarter 1 Important Dates
ii. The canteen is closed before and during activities but will re-open at 3:20 iii. Children not signed up for an activity must make alternative arrangements so they are not left unsupervised. For example, they should be picked up as normal iv. Children are not permitted to be on campus during CCA times unsupervised v. Individual music lessons will continue to be offered at school, however they are no longer a part of the CCA programme vi. Students must be in appropriate athletic kit during sporting activities vii.
