Moshi Primary News: 19 December 07

  Dear Parents,

As we approach the end of a very long first term I would like to express my thanks to you all for the support you have given to the Primary school. There have been many varied activities throughout the term and our students have been wonderful participants in both the academic and extra-curricular activities they have been offered. A special thanks to all the parents who have given their help either in the classroom or in the After School activity programme.

At the end of term we must say ‘Goodbye’ to Floris and Tim Van der Veen and their parents Uli and Judith. We wish the whole family every success and good wishes for the next stage of their lives in Cape Town.

Primary Christmas Production

Last Thursday evening many of you came to join the primary students and teachers for the Christmas primary production. I am sure you would agree that the evening was a great success and I have to say that many parents came to comment to me about the clarity of speech of the ten P6 students who took the lead roles.

I was involved in this production from the very start with Mr. Jones and the P6 students and must say that the students' initial enthusiasm for the play did not waiver throughout their six weeks of rehearsing. These same students were also responsible for the painting of the backdrops, and what a fantastic job they did there too! Our thanks go to Mr. Jones for his script-writing, song-writing and artistic talents as without them this production would not have happened.

End of Term Arrangements

Primary classes will end on Wednesday December 19th at 12pm (midday) and resume on Tuesday January 15th at 7.30am. At that time we will be welcoming some new students to our primary school.

After School Activities for Term 2

Thank you to the people who have offered to organise and run a primary club in Term 2. If anyone else would like to offer an activity I would love to hear from you. At the present time the following clubs have been offered: Netball, Choir, Art & Craft (P5/6 only), Patchwork, Gymnastics (P1/4 only), Swimming (P1-P6) and Italian Cookery (P5/6 only).

Visiting Other Countries This Holiday?

I am sure that many of you will be visiting different counties and places during the Christmas break. I would be very grateful if you could send us a postcard to school and maybe even purchase a small artifact from the country or place you are visiting. Hopefully early next term I will be able to display the various cards and artifacts I have already received from many of you in the corridor of the primary section of school.

Primary Day Boarding

Mr. Eaton would like to launch a new project at ISM next term and attached is a flyer that briefly describes his idea for Primary Day Boarding. If you think you might be interested in this idea Mr. Eaton will be hosting a lunch at 12.30pm on Wednesday January 16th where you can come along and find out more. The first week will be offered as a free trial week to those who are interested in the possibility of using this provision.

Newsletter Attachments

All of the primary class teachers have contributed to this week’s newsletter so please take your time and enjoy the attachments. Ms. Rosi’s PYP Curriculum Corner article is also attached.

Have a wonderful holiday and we will see you in January.

Kind regards
Kathy Slocombe
