D1 Orientation - Service @ Light in Africa Orphanage

Harvesting Maize

On Saturday 13th August 2011 a group of 16 determined D1 students set off to pick maize at "Light in Africa", an organisation here in Tanzania which cares for sick, abandoned and handicapped children and other unsupported people.

However I don't think they realised just how hard and tiring it was going to be. It was hot, dry and dusty and the field seemed to go on forever!!!!!!!!! However after a lot of hard work and few complaints, they managed to clear two and a half acres of maize!!!!!!!! An incredible feat!!!!

Every grain of maize was collected and will provide food for the coming months.
Doing this voluntary work for them saved the Home money and also allowed other volunteers to take some of the older children down to Pangani - an escape from the walled compound out at the mines!!!!!!!
Well done everybody!!!
